我和《心情溶剂》

I still remember my NTU Geyong friend Yongwei called me one nite while I was sleeping saying she will help me register my rap song 《心变》for me to enter the 5th XQRJ (心情溶剂) National Songwriting Competition 2003.

The song managed to get into the top 12 songs in the Grand Finals held at NUS University Cultural Centre!
In order to bring out the hip hop feel of the song, I got 4 SMU dancers to dance with me... My 1st time doing hip hop dance on stage!! ( also the last time ...LOL ) Spent a few days practicing the dance with the dancers at their SMU dance studio. I won Best Performer that nite.

And from then on, me and XQRJ 结下不解之缘。 =)

The very next year in 2004, I was invited to be emcee cum guest performer for 6th XQRJ Semi-finals. That year, both Kelly Poon and my brother Zen got into the Grand Finals. I played keyboard and backup vocals for my brother's song 《看不透》during the Grand Finals.

And in the subsequent years, I was the emcee cum guest performer for XQRJ's roadshows at Youth Park & Bugis Junction, Music Seminars at The Ark Cafe ( 木船民歌餐厅), The Substation as well as NUS LT 27. I was even requested to write a 2 page article on Stage Performance which was printed in the 2006 programme booklet! 我何德何能?感谢XQRJ抬举!=)

And a big thanx to the XQRJ committees from 2005 to 2009, me and my band Azure were invited to perform as guest performers for XQRJ Grand Finals! We must admit we aren't the best Chinese band around in Singapore, so we really appreciate XQRJ very much for giving us the opportunities to be a part of their grand event every year. Therefore I tried my best to come up with interesting repertoire every year for the event. =)

XQRJ made a big difference in my life and music journey.

P/S: Check out the photos below to see how I from slim turned fat and then back to slim for the past 7 yrs...LOL.
